Facebook and Instagram Report Thousands of Outages Worldwide

10 months agoOn a seemingly ordinary Tuesday morning, the digital world was rocked as users found themselves unable to access Meta's suite of social media platforms—Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
Reports flooded in from frustrated users as both Facebook and Threads refused to load, while Instagram users experienced stagnant feeds, with no sign of a refresh in sight. Some users even had issued getting to the Facebook login page.
The outage, which began surfacing on DownDetector.com around 10 a.m. ET, reignited memories of a similar, albeit more prolonged, disruption in 2021 when Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were rendered inaccessible for over six hours.
Meta, then Facebook, attributed the 2021 blackout to "configuration changes on backbone routers."
Now, as history seemed to repeat itself, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the issue, affirming, "We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now," in a post on the social media site X.
