4 hours agoIt is going to be a roller coaster of a weather pattern in the Northeast this week with a variety of conditions coming down the pipe. Here is a look at what you should expect in the days ahead in this corner of the U.S.
Shifting Weather Pattern: The Story for the Eastern U.S. This Week
The temperatures may be on the upswing to start the week in the Midwest and the Northeast but the warmup is not going to last for long. Another burst of chilly temperatures is on the horizon as well as the threat of more moisture.
The beginning of the new work week brought dry conditions and warmer temperatures to the eastern half of the U.S. This was a welcome forecast for a part of the country that has been left shivering in recent weeks. Forecasters are predicting that another influx of moisture will spread from the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing an end to the dry period.
Despite the presence of building clouds and rain, the warmer temperatures will remain in place in a zone from the Great Lakes and into the Northeast. You can expect the mercury to hover at levels of at least 10 degrees over the historical average for the end of February through the middle of the week for this zone.
For instance, New York City may see its first reading in the 50s this month on Tuesday. This day is shaping up to be the mildest day in the Big Apple since the end of December. Wednesday will likely be the most pleasant day of the week for the metro area with a high of about 56 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will remain moderate overnight with lows bottoming out at about 42 degrees.
